Panaeolus cyanescens spore swab
This particular variety is Panaeolus cyanescens from Texas, USA.
A swab is a sterilized q-tip swiped across a spore print, thus gathering the spores, wrapped in tinfoil for protection. One then streaks the swab across a clean agar dish to inoculate it with spores. A swab is only usable to a person doing agar work. A spore print, however, can be used to make a syringe or to inoculate grains directly.
Also available: Panaeolus bisporus.
